CAE Simulation Engineer (Crash Safety)
We are looking for PhD talent with a strong foundation in mechanics and CAE, focused on automotive crash and passive safety, to join the Shanghai R&D team.
You will work on crash-safety programs for leading OEMs in China and abroad: vehicle and subsystem CAE modeling, crash simulation, result interpretation and performance improvement, with room to advance methods, models and simulation workflows.
The role is not only about “running a simulation”. We want people who understand the physics and design logic behind crash problems, and who use CAE to help customers solve hard product-development questions.
Responsibilities
- Lead CAE analysis and engineering development in automotive crash safety, including full-vehicle and key-subsystem performance work.
- Build, debug and refine FE models of vehicles and components; run typical crash load cases such as frontal, side, offset, rear and rollover.
- Use results to assess body structure, energy-absorbing members, occupant cell, doors, seats and other safety structures; identify risks and propose engineering changes.
- Correlate simulation with physical tests, locate issues and improve models so CAE predictions are more reliable.
- Assess crash performance against C-NCAP, E-NCAP, IIHS and related regulations to support vehicle safety targets.
- Work with vehicle, body, design, test and other CAE teams so analysis turns into implementable design actions.
- Help develop CAE methods, modeling workflows and analysis tools that raise efficiency, accuracy and predictive quality.
- Study hard crash-safety problems, capture methods in reports, and push advanced CAE into live vehicle programs.
Requirements
- PhD or above in mechanics, mechanical engineering, vehicle/automotive engineering, materials science, aerospace or a related field.
- Solid theory in finite elements, structural mechanics, material mechanics, impact dynamics or explicit dynamics.
- Strong interest in crash safety, structural crashworthiness, occupant protection or passive safety, with research or project experience.
- Hands-on with at least one mainstream explicit crash solver.
- Hands-on with at least one CAE pre/post processor.
- Able to diagnose issues from results and explain the physics.
- Able to learn new methods, tools and engineering practice quickly.
- Able to read English technical literature and automotive-safety materials, and communicate in English.
Preferred
- Full-vehicle crash-safety CAE research or program experience
- Work on vehicle crash, crashworthiness, occupant protection, pedestrian protection or restraint systems
- Familiarity with C-NCAP, E-NCAP or IIHS
- Experience with solver customization, user materials or related R&D
- Python, MATLAB or C/C++ for CAE automation
- Crash-test vs CAE correlation studies
- Strong publications in impact dynamics, crash safety, explicit dynamics or FEA
- Research or project work at overseas universities, labs or global OEMs
